I use InputDirector to redirect my keyoard and mouse from my desktop to my notebook. This program has the ability to copy/paste strings, graphical information and complete files from master to slave and vice versa.
Notes is the ONLY application on the notebook not allowing to directly paste graphical information. I will get a “Unable to get data from clipboard” message.
Configuration:
Desktop: Win7 x64, 8GB, InputDirector as Master
Notebook: WinXP SP3, 2GB, InputDirector Slave, Notes 8.5.1
Reproduction of error:
Select graphical data on Desktop (use ANY application allowing to select graphical data, I used MSPaint, Capturewiz Pro 4.50), move cursor to Notebook and try to paste into a ‘new message’. “Unable to get data from clipboard” popup will appear.
Not producing an error:
-
copy/paste from any application on Master to ANY other appication I tested on the Notebook. e.g. Word, MSPaint
-
copy/paste from any application on Notebook to ‘new message’ in Notes on the same Notebook.
-
copy/paste of string data or complete files from Master into ‘new message’ in Notes on the Notebook
The copy/paste fails regardless of
-
size of copied data (e.g. 100x200 pixels)
-
free RAM on Notebook (task manager shows 1GB free)
Possible workaround:
- copy/paste from Master into any application except Notes, reselect copied data, paste into Notes
Possibly crosslinked observation:
- copy/paste on Notebook into Notes reduces the color depth of the image compared to an ‘Import’ of the same picture (this will not happen when you paste into e.g. Word)

Problem to solve at the same time (synergy):
- ‘Import’ does not allow to import a .PNG files. PNG is used nowadays by most users as a replacement for .GIF
