We have an app that is used to track some special customers and generate legal documents to be mailed at specified intervals. Our legal dept. has created the letters as MS word docs. I copy and paste them into domino forms and replace customer name etc. with fields to inherited when composed. This works, BUT, The forms take forever to load. When looking at the design doc properties what was a 200k ms word doc has become a 16Mb notes form. Something strange is going on here.
Are there any special things I ned to be aware of regarding pasting ms word into a domino form? Is there a workaround to this ballooning and speed killer? I’d rather not have to re-author these 40 or so documents in designer.
I have tried saving them a RTF’s prior to the copy and paste and it didn’t seem to work.
TIA for any help given!
Lee.

One thing to try is, use LotusScript to open the form design notes as NotesDocuments (you can use NotesNoteCollection to get their note IDs and GetDocumentByID to get the document object). Get the $Body rich text item and use NotesRichTextItem.Compact on it, then Update, then NotesDocument.Sign before you save your changes. I’m not guaranteeing that will help, but it’s worth a try.
If you want to try it without having to write code, open a form in Designer, select all, copy, create a new form, paste. Does that make it smaller? Compact, I think, does essentially the same thing.
I’m curious to know what is on this word document you’re pasting. I’ve tried what you’ve said with a couple of documents, and I don’t observe the same effect – the Notes forms I’m creating by pasting documents from Word are actually smaller than the Word documents.
There’s probably some specific type of thing on the documents that accounts for most of the space used. It might be an image or chart or something that gets converted into an OLE object, for instance. If you could make it into a GIF file and import it, that would make the form smaller.

Thanks for your response. You solved it. They had a small company logo on the top. If I delete that prior to the copy and paste it works as expected. I would have never thought to look at such a small image file as the cause. I’ll add our logo as an image resource and proceed. Thanks again, I was about to start rebuilding these manually.
