Copy Data Directory from 7 to 8.5.1

Help, We are upgrading users from Windows XP to Windows 7 and R7 to R851FP2 at the same time. We are building a new computer with Windows 7 and trying to copy the Data directory from the R7 to the new R851 Data directory. When starting R851 the desktop is not upgraded from R7 to R851. The desktop is empty except for the default icons.

We have tried:

1, Copying the data directory before installing R851. No icons

2, Removing the Roaming profile before install. No icons

3, Renaming desktop7.ndk to desktop8.ndk. No icons

What works, but takes to long:

Installing the LN7 client on the new Windows 7 workstation. Copy the Data directory from the old PC to the new. Upgrading the R7 to R851.

Anyone have a better idea? Does Lotus have a conversion app?

First off, I wouldn’t copy the entire Data directory, if that is what you are doing. There is way too much stuff in there that is R7 and you can only cause yourself issues. Now, if you want to build the Windows 7 box, install Notes R8.5.1FP2, configure Notes R8.5.1FP2 on the new box and then copy over selected files, that should work. If you copy over the NAMES.NSF, BOOKMARKS.NSF, DESKTOP#.NDK, then those files should be updated, you can just overwrite the existing files (although if you are particularly cautious, you can back up the files you are replacing first). At least, it has been my experience with earlier versions of R8.5.1 that they do, although you will certainly want to confirm that.
