Converting Notes Calendar to 6.5

Hello All,

Would someone be able to assist me in getting a Notes calendar converted to version 6.5?

We were on ver 5.xx and was recently upgraded to 6.5… The person who looks after our email server is away on holidays.

Is this possible?

many thanks,

Hamid

If your server is 6.5.x, and your clients are 6.5.x, that next thing you want to do is upgrade the design of your mail templates to the 6.5 mail template design.

Normally your admin would use one of the following methods, but since you are saying they are away, do you have the same access they do on the servers? Also, are you sure it’s a good idea to make such a major change while your admin is away?

UPGRADING TO LOTUS NOTES 6 AND LOTUS DOMINO 6

Upgrading Notes mail files

After upgrading to Lotus Notes 6, you can upgrade user mail file templates to the Notes 6 design or to another mail template. You have three options for upgrading mail file templates:

Upgrade-by-mail upgrades both the Notes client and the Notes mail file template.

For more information about Upgrade-by-mail, see the topic Using Upgrade-by-mail.

The mail conversion utility upgrades mail file templates using the mail convert task.

For more information about the mail conversion utility, see the topic Upgrading mail files with the mail conversion utility.

Seamless mail upgrade automatically upgrades the mail file template after users upgrade their Lotus Notes clients to Notes 6.

For more information about seamless mail upgrade, see the topic Using seamless mail upgrade.

When you upgrade users’ mail files, you can specify any mail template, including:

Notes 6 mail file template (MAIL6.NTF)

Domino Web Access (6) (iNotes6.ntf)

A customized mail template

Note The Domino Web Access (6) template is supported by the Notes 6 client and the Domino Web Access client.

The following table compares the mail conversion utility, Upgrade-by-mail, and seamless mail upgrade.

Considerations

Mail conversion utility

Administrators determine when to upgrade mail file templates

Upgrade options available for upgrading one or more mail files, mail files located in a subdirectory, and so on

Upgrades Notes 4.6 and Notes 5 mail file templates to the Notes 6 design

You must ensure that Notes clients are upgraded before upgrading mail file templates

Upgrade-by-mail

Upgrades Notes 4.6 and Notes 5 mail file templates to the Notes 6 design

Can be used to notify users when mail files have been migrated from cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft Outlook Express

Requires users to have at least Designer access to mail files for template upgrades

Seamless mail upgrade

Can specify different mail file templates for different Lotus Notes client versions

Can also upgrade custom mail folders

Does not require users to have Designer access to mail databases

Requires that users be assigned to either a policy or Setup Profile. Users not assigned to one or the other are not upgraded.

If seamless mail upgrade fails, it prompts users to upgrade their mail files manually. Users can ignore this prompt and select the “Do not display this message again” option.

Tip You can use both Upgrade-by-mail and the mail conversion utility to upgrade users. Use Upgrade-by-mail to notify users to upgrade their Notes clients, but do not complete the mail file portion of the notification. After users upgrade their Lotus Notes clients, use the mail conversion utility to upgrade their mail file templates. This ensures that all clients are upgraded to Notes 6 before you upgrade the Notes mail file template.

Alan,

thank you for replying, The templates are converted for all user mailboxes… The calendar in question was made up for some users to track of certain tasks and i think that this one was overlooked during the conversion process.

i just need the command that will convert this database to 6.5 standard.

Thanks again,

Hamid

Since you are only doing one file, its easy to do it manually (instead of a command on the server).

1.) Make sure you have designer level access or better to the DB.

2.) Open the DB

3.) File - Database - Replace Design. In the dialog box that comes up, choose the server name, and then find the template (most likely mail 6) that you want to use to replace the current design.
