Can anyone help me - I’ve gone blank.
Owner of the mail file (must be hierarchical) is fred/mynotes
email name in the location document is fred@mydomain.com
name and short name in the Person document in PNAB is fred
I expect people getting email to see it as coming from fred@mydomain.com
but
it’s coming from fred/mynotes@mydomain.com
so replies get lost - this is not a valid email name.
what have I done wrong???

Have you mentioned the same internet address in user’s person document also? If not try it.

In your GLobal Domain Document, Conversions Tab, “Local Part Formed from” field and “Domino Domains Included” field, do you have “short name” and “none” (respectively) in those fields?

Did you restart the Router after changing the document?

Thanks for the help so far - please keep trying

you’ve set up the mail-in database document incorrectly, or haven’t created one;
any mail will go out FROM the mail file owners name, their internet address is usually looked up or generated if not found (which looks like what is happening in this case).
in other words, if you setup the mail-in database document with a valid internet address then replies will be able to go back to the database.
see for how we setup mail-in db’s

Maybe I’ve misunderstood, but mail-out shouldn’t have any relevance here. My users all do have an internet address, both in their location document and in the PNAB, and all users send mail directly, not via the server.
Thanks anyway

Hi Henry,If you are sending the mail directly to the internet, maybe the field:
“Internet domain for Notes addresses when connecting directly to the Internet” is missing? (no value?)
Take a look in the users location, under MAIL TAB.
