After installing, running the configure for the first time, it counts up to 40%, then reports “file not found”. Nothing else - what am I missing???

that wasn’t actually my problem, but you did give me a clue. For unknown reason, the notes.ini line for Data= was pointing to the Domino directory (not domino\data). I’m quite sure that we accepted the defaults when installing so how it got wrong is a mystery.
Also, it would help a lot if the failure message gives a more meaningful meesage than “file not found” - at least, say which file.
