I have a page that has a action hotspot that compose’s a new doc. The hotspot performs an @command(openview …) and then @command(opendocument). A new document is created but the problem is that it also opens a window with the view. Is there any way to have an action on a page open a new doc without first having a view open or opening a view?

try adding @settargetframe before opening the view.

If you are composing a new document, then I don’t understand why you are using @command([OpenDocument]) since the document you want to edit does not exist.
If you’re wanting to open an existing document, use LotusScript NotesUIWorkspace.EditDocument. This does not require opening a view first.
If you really are composing a document, use the argument to @Command([Compose]) that specifies which database to compose in – that way you do not have to open the database first.
