I have briefly tested the two excellent new templates that come with Domino 7.0.2 (that is, as part of the Domino install, not the Notes Designer install): the RSS Feed Generator (rss_generator.ntf) and IBM Blog (dominoblog.ntf).
I also tried them very cursorily on a Domino 6.5.4 and on a Domino 5.0.11 environment, and they APPEARED to work there too. Has anybody else tried the latter, or got any comments (apart from the expected “they were only tested for R7.0.2 and later environments”)?
Subject: Compatibility of the RSS Feed Generator and DominoBlog templates with Domino releases earlier than R7?
The author wrote them originally for earlier versions and says they should work in anything 6.5 (maybe even 6.0) and up, but that he doesn’t know whether there are any licensing issues with running them in earlier versions.
Subject: Licensing issues?
I recently listened to the Taking Notes Episode 34 podcast of 04 October 2006 titled “Lotus Notes and Domino 7.0.2” at OpenNTF.org (listen to it at http://takingnotes.openntf.org/blogs/takingnotes.nsf/dx/taking-notes-episode-34-10.04.06---Notes-Domino-7-0-2.htm )This included with Steve Castledine about his “IBM Blog” template and what he had to arrange to get done so that it could be taken over and released by IBM in R7.0.2 – and it was either in this talk or in a separate discussion of the RSS Feed Generator template where there was a mention of licensing being tied to R7.0.2 and thus some doubt cast upon whether these two ultra-cool apps could be legally used on earlier releases!
SO this DOES need to be clarified by IBM, wouldn’t you say?
What about the environment where you have maybe only a single R7.0.2 server and want/need to replicate these templates (and the databases dependent on them, of course) across to other servers in your network which are at earlier release levels?
So, what’s the official position, IBM?
