We have just upgraded our servers to 8.5. As a client we have retained the 6.5 version. When a user invokes the ‘Compact’ task from the Database->Properties->I it seems that the compact is not working.How can I check that the compact task is enabled on the server?

Yes, starting in 7.0 I believe requests to compact a database from the client are queued up on the server and processed by the update task.
This is to prevent user initiated compacts from overloading the Domino Server…
If you do a show task on the Domino Server you should see e.g.
Indexer Compacting mail\jpaganet.nsf.
You should also be able to search notes.log Miscellaneous Events and find e.g.
