Compact problem

Can we define the style of ‘compact’ that occurs on a user’s mail database, when he compacts his mail file from Database–properties–i ?One of my users was trying to compact his mail file, but the size in properties box remains the same.

what might be the problem?

What access does the user have?

I’ve got a feeling that you need Manager access in the ACL to be able to start a Compact with this method.

And I’ve also got a feeling that if Transactional Logging is enabled this can make a difference to the command working or not.

Thnx for the response.

The user has Manager Access on his mail file & Transactional Logging is not enabled on this particular Server.

Hmmm. Did you wait a while for the server to process the command?

What’s the Percentage Used tally? ie how much white space is there to be reclaimed? If it’s in the high 90% it could be as good as you’re going to get.

Yes I have waited enough for the command to be processed. When we click on the %used button, it shows 42%. What do I infer?

Any errors in the logs?

Can other users with the same access to their mailfiles get a compact to work?

Can you get a load compact from the server console to work? Even if not, you may get a more useful error message from this, eg. a corrupted Note that needs to be removed before compact can run properly, or at least have fixup run against it.

No problem from console, the command works. I have used load compact -B. My question is whether we can specify the style of compact that occurs when the user clicks on compact button on his client.

Hmmm, having not tried this method of compacting for a long, long time, I thought I’d try it out on my own mailfile, with no transaction logging and having manager access - and it doesn’t seem to compact for me either.

I swear it did on R4, and definitely on R5, but I’m not sure I ever tried it on R6. I’m currently running 703 server and client, but the command is seemingly lost and doesn’t take effect. The help says it should work.

Sorry I can’t help more - but at least you know you’re not alone… Perhaps someone else out there knows how to force it to use a certain compact style.

Anyone?
