Compact Message

HiJust recently i upgraded Notes Domino from 5.0.11 TO 6.0.1,Some users facing problem while sending mail & it won’t save mail in SENT Folder, below message displays while they click send button

"Unable to write to your mail database which is currently 39168 KB. Saving this message would exceed the disk quota of 20480 KB by 18690 KB

You should delete messages, empty the trash and compact your mail file or contact your administrator for help"

Note = The users almost 80% deleted all the mails from their Inbox, personnel folders and trash folder, current mail quota whats existed i had increased more 30% quota, but still same problem

as i know that doing even from client machine doing compact not getting refreshed

Even i compacted mail database from server console specifying cmd = load compact and load compact <filename.nsf>

request is their any possible where users can make compact from client machine or any other best possible solution Please

Thanks in Advance

Pls escalate this to IBM Support. This looks like a configuration issue or product issue.

Subject: try “Load compact -C mail\filename.nsf” or “Load compact -B mail\filename.nsf”

Hi,

  • Go to the ‘All Documents’ view on the problematic mail-file. Sort the e-mails in there by size (by clicking the small triangle at the top of the size column). Make sure there are no large messages listed, particularly ones with e-mail attachments (delete or detach the files).

  • Make sure noone else has the mailfile open (restart the server if necessary) then try compacting again. If compacting doesn’t work at the workstation, restart the workstation (to ensure it’s not accessing the file) then try compacting at the server console (load compact etc…).

I ask people to close their Notes Client for up to a minute and then re-open it after compacting their mail-file, because I get the impression that having the file open on more than one computer (server and one workstation, which is sometimes the case) can inhibit the compaction process.

Judging by the size of the mail-file (39MB), you could give the client 50% or more additional space (10MB+) in their quota and they would still be over the limit and unable to store sent mail.

EDIT - You could also try refreshing your ‘All Documents’ view (SHIFT-F9) to make sure it is up-to-date before searching for large e-mails.

If none of this works, try running a thorough fixup on the mail-file, then try compacting again.

Paul.
