Combobox/Listbox and Layers -- Workaround?

Looking for a workaround for the Combobox and Layer issue with web browsers – layers always appear behind the combobox control/z-index does not work.

I found a few sample solutions, but wanted to see if there one from a true Lotus Notes/Domino Developer.

Any help would be great!
