Columns at top of inbox view?

Hello, we are rolling out 8.5 mail template and 8.5 client and on some machines the columns at top of inbox for sender, subject, date, etc is gone replaced by “sort by” and a menu to choose what to sort by. Our users are used to having the columns display. I have done view - customize view - set to default and the columns flicker for a second and then go away again. How can I get this back ?

Subject: This may not be it but…

on the machines where you see the sort by instead of columns are the windows where you are viewing the Notes client small if so this is by design. If you maximize the window you should see the columns. Just a wild guess without knowing the full situation.

Subject: Sounds like those machines are in “narrow mode”. What is screen resolution and is sidebar expanded?

Narrow mode is a new feature in 8.5 - when the client detects that subject field doesn’t have enough space to display enough information, it switches to vertical mode.

Usually it happens when

  • sidebar is expanded

  • preview is on the side (instead of on bottom)

  • screen resolution is too low

We tested and made sure client is not in narrow mode by default when sidebar is collapsed and client is running 1024x768 or higher.

If your clients are running 1024x768 or above and sidebar is collapsed and preview is on bottom (or not open) and you still run into it, upload a design only copy of your mail file and it will be followed up here.

Subject: Yep, narrow mode…

Ok that is what it was - the new narrow mode feature. Thanks guys.
