Collaboration Licenses

I have been tasked with finding out how many collaboration licenses we are using. To save money, we want to revert some to normal email clients.Trouble is when I look at licensing it just lists CALs, designer, servers etc. It does not say if the CALs are collaboration or messaging.

We are a big company with over 1700 CALs. According to a supplier we have maintanance for 1300 ish collaboration licenses, costing quite a lot. We would like to get that figure down.

One thing I am trying is License tracking, but I dont think thats giving me the info either.

Any help appreciated,

Steve.

Steve:

This isn’t going to be easy.

The only place, AFAIK, that tells you or the user what CAL is in use, is the Lotus Splash Screen. It will tell the user if the Notes client that they are using is Mail/Messaging option. If there isn’t anything like that on the splash screen, then they are using the Collaboration Client.

You can get this information by clicking on Help - About Notes when you are in Lotus Notes, too.

If I were tasked with this, I would determine how many users are using strictly mail and purchase Messaging CALs. The rest would get Collaboration CALs.

License Tracking only looks at Client/Designer/Administration information.

Gregg, I was totally unaware of there being any difference on the splash screen for the messaging and collaboration licenses. AFAIK there is no code difference, and no difference in the ID file… so how could the splash screen possibly know?

@Rich: I am not sure. That was the answer I got back from my contact that works with Lotus Licensing. And I took it as fact.
