Does clustering works if user login via dial-up? I got the message “Server not responding” when I down the first server. I am not sure if I am required to make the first connection to the second server so that its in the laptop cache?

Hello,
Either via the office network or dial-up connection, the user can be failovered on the other server. There should be a file titled cluster.ncf on the user’s laptop under the Notes data folder. This file have the accessed clustered servers into so that when one is down, the user will be redirected to the next available member of the cluster.
What can be a problem is that the user cannot resolve either the name or the Ip address of the server. Have then a check on the DNS for dial-up connections and also make sure that dial-up users can see the network routes from there laptops.
If those facts are OK, let’s create a connection document into the user’s Personal Names & Address Book.

How does the user dial in?
If they dial in to a VPN or RAS - failover can work.
We have users doing that and they do failover.
If they dial directly into a modem on the cluster server I do not see how they could failover.

They dial in via Internet and access from Notes Client. I am thinking it could be the firewall that is blocking access to the second server.
