Cluster vs Scheduled Replication Efficiency

I have two hub servers used for application db replication to all our servers in EMEA. No users are allowed to connect to them so clustering is not necessary for failover or for mail delivery. They both have the same set of databases (about 2,500) and replicate at different times (day/night) I have not turned on clustering for them as I haven’t felt they needed it as hourly scheduled replication works fine. I am looking to reduce the rep frequency to 30 minutes. Would it be more efficient to load the cluster manager on them or to continue using scheduled replication - say every 10 minutes (no network impact as they have a hard-wired connection between them)?

Btw - re two other queries that came up on the call. We use an agent to run every night to synchronise databases between cluster servers i.e to create replica copies if one is missing on a cluster partner. I don’t thinkit is a good idea to have Domino do that auomatially, just becasue servers are in a cluster as was suggested by the person asking the question.

We use Server.AvailabilityThreshold = 100 on our secondary mail cluster servers and users revert to the primary just fine when the primary comes back up.

I was also very surprised at the comment that all clustering does is replicate and that failover occurs for a db even if the two servers are not clustered. What about amil routing failover? And what if you don’t already have an icon for the replcai copy on your workspace?

Subject: Cluster v. scheduled replication

Remember that you always want to have scheduled replication because the cluster replicator does not obey advanced replication settings. If you don’t also have scheduled replication, the contents of the database may not match what you have configured. If the servers are directly connected, I don’t think it’s worth investing a lot of time in choosing the most efficient method, since both will be plenty efficient in that configuration.
