The Help file in administrator tells me that Domino fails over in a cluster based on server availability.
Most of the servers in my environment are not heavily used and therefore usually have a 100 availability index.
I cannot find this documented anywhere, but it seems that Domino then goes by Alpha. (Based on my own testing)
I am looking to use this to my advantage in our clustered environment to force the failover clients to try the “hub” clustered server first in a failover scenario.
Background complete, I want to ask if during failover Domino would choose a server with “A” or “1” first? Anyone have any experience with this?
the cluster manager decides which server to fail over to based on server availablity, true. If you want to prevent users from failing to a specific server you can “trick” the cluster manager by making the server busy. Just because it shows as busy to the cluster manager does not mean that users will not or cannot fail over to it if the bust server is the only one available. To mark a server as busy you can set this notes.ini parameter:
Server_Availablity_Threshold=100
To answer your above question about whether Notes would see “A” or “1” first alphabetically, logically I would choose “1”.
