Regardless of what tabs I have open when I shutdown the notes client it always opens the same 5 tabs (mail, calendar, workspace, replication, and this db). If I have other tabs open when I shutdown they are not remembered at startup and if I close some tabs they still open.
Where is the option to set the current state prior to shutdown so that it opens all the tabs when it starts next and/or is there an option to save a current state to be opened at restart?
I tried to mimic your environment but did not see the problem. Rather, what I saw is described in the next paragraph.
The expected behavior is:
If Getting Started was open, it will be the 1st tab restored.
Your home page will be the next tab regardless of whether or not it was closed.
Remaining tabs will be restored in the order they were when you exited the client.
Entries in the “Startup” Folder will be appended to the tab list if they are not already there.
The contents of the “Last State” folder will have no effect.
Could you append the following after you shut down the client?
This XML file (i convert ':" to “_” to read it in a browser). It contains the list of tabs which were open when you closed the client.
<notes_data_directory>\workspace.metadata.plugins\com.ibm.rcp.personality.framework\personalityWindowState\com.ibm.rcp.platform.personality.config.xml
A list of tabs you had open when you shutdown (so I can compare against #1).
The following file:
<notes_data_directory>/workspace/trace-log-0.xml
This contains logging messages and I can search for a clue.
(file attachments are not allowed here - I will find your e-mail and send directly)
btw. I tried to find a place to reset all my preferences without success.
at one point I was told to delete the workspace which I did and to clean out my notes.ini which I did and that did not resolve this issue and several others that I have
among those issues related to restarting the client are:
right sidebar primary contacts and activities I uncheck and they always come back
sametime on the individual groups lost the ‘show online contacts only’. (by setting the integrated sametime preferences to ‘Online Only’ that solved this one
every mail folder and the inbox starts out with the focus on the very top (1st) document every time the client starts - this is new with the gold release - it used to open the last view
let me know what else I can provide to assist on this
The file com.ibm.rcp.platform.personality.config.xml does not contain the tab state you had on exit (if you want to display it, replace all instances of “:” with “_” and inspect it with a browser). Possible explanations could be (1) for some reason, it was not updated on exit (you can test that theory by checking dates) or (2) it is being stored someplace else and “roamed” before launching. This file also contains side shelf information so I suspect the other problems you’re seeing are related.
What I suggest is:
Shutdown your client.
Notice the date on the file - was it changed. Save a copy of the file.
Relaunch the client - see if the file changed (i.e., was roamed)
These is the date used for restoring tabs when you launch your client:
Subject: Pretty sure I understand what is happening - will pass on to roaming team
I’m not an expert on roaming but here is what I think is happening:
On startup, an old copy of the xml file containing tab state is being roamed to your client
On shutdown, the file is not roamed back to the server.
This should only be a problem for customers who were beta customers. The solution is expected be simply removing a file on the server.
Subject: this is a roaming ussue with preBeta code
Your problem is most likely caused by roaming Tab information from another machine. It has been fixed in Notes 8.5 GA.To fix it, you need to make sure you are running 8.5 GA code and cleanup data in roamingdata.nsf and locally in your workspace. Here are the steps:
Make sure you only have one of the roaming clients up.
Open local roamingdata.nsf and delete documents for following plug-ins:
com.ibm.notes.client
com.ibm.rcp.personality.framework
org.eclipse.ui.workbench
Go to Replication page and Replicate roamingdata.nsf ( or entire Roaming User Applications folder)
Shutdown the client.
Cleanup your workspace:
open \workspace.metadata.plugins folder
delete com.ibm.notes.client folder
delete com.ibm.rcp.personality.framework folder
open \workspace.metadata.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime.settings folder
delete org.eclipse.ui.workbench.prefs file.
Start the client and check that your Tabs are OK.
Repeat workspace cleanup ( step 5) on all of your roaming machines.
which is strange because right now I have 8 tabs open and the last state is really what it was when I did shut notes down last but when it opened up popped another db/tab.
