I’m having the same problem: Performance of Notes 6.0.1 client initially OK after a reboot, then declines while using Notes mail. Slow responses to mouse, display slowly catches up to typing. Using Macintosh OS 9.2.2 on a G3 233 Mhz. Really! This problem did not surface until I updated my mail db design. No problem after installing 6.0.1 over 5 client until the design was later updated to 6.
Possibly related observation: If I watch memory allocation, Notes adds about as much to the OS as it takes for itself. And the bar for Notes fluctuates between about 40% used and 100% used with nothing intentionally going on. I’ve never seen this before with other apps so I thought I should note it.
Update- Odd observation, maybe just a coincidence: I had Java turned off in Notes preferences while the problem was seen. I turned Jave back on, restarted Notes and I haven’t seen the slow typing problem return yet. Still getting the jumping memory bar.
2nd Update 6/26/03 Problem has NOT resumed in the 3 weeks following the update noted above.
We’re seeing the same problems here with about 20 Mac’s running slow (both G3 and G4 users).
Macs running 9.x and Notes 6.01 talking to Notes 5.x servers (don’t ask!), and half are slow and half aren’t.
I looked at one this morning and I couldn’t select text with the mouse in a new memo it was so slow, hitting the carrage return to a new line took a good couple of seconds. Type ahead isn’t worth waiting for, and even using the tab key to move from the To, CC, Subject fields take some time. Mac was a G3 with 512mb of memory.
Intresting that network access was contant whilst loading the client, even though the client was installed on the loacl HD.
Crazy thing is only about half the macs have this problem.
I am also having users complain of a similar issue. Typically when typing a memo, but the client can lock up for around 10 seconds when doing other things as well. Otherwise the client seems to work fine and speed isn’t an issue.Running 6.01 on Windows XP, brand new machine with 256mb RAM. Connecting to brand new server running 6.01. Desktop or server speed shouldn’t be the cause as far as I can see. The same issue has been happening on other older machines too running 6.01 and XP.
I’m having the same issue. Running 6.5.1 on a brand new machine with 512 MB RAM and running Windows XP. I don’t remember seeing such a problem running the same version with Windows 2000.
