Client 8.5.1 Font Size Too Big, Won't Accept Lower Setting

I am running Notes 8.5.1 and my display font is too big.

Under File/Preferences/Fonts and Colors it says Font Size “Normal.”

But my Notes.ini says:

FontIncrease=2

UserFontIncrease=0

Now I have set

FontIncrease=0

and saved the file.

But I go into Notes and the font is too large still. I get out of Notes and, low and behold, I have FontIncrease=2 in my notes.ini again!

Changing the “Windows and Themes” settings seems to have no effect.

Has anyone else seen this or have any suggestions for fixing it? It’s very frustrating!

Subject: Deleted this line in notes.ini

Just got this weird behaviour all of a sudden with 8.5.2 client. Have been running 8.5.2 for a couple of weeks now and just this morning the fonts were really big.Found out that the line display_font_adjustment=5 was added at the end, don’t know why at all. Anyway, after deletion the clinet were back to normal…

Subject: Use the displayfontadjustment Notes.ini variable

The “displayfontadjustment=” option will allow you to modify the font size throughout the Notes client.

Setting a positive value (eg: displayfontadjustment=5) will increase the font size used by Notes to 5 points larger than the OS default.

Setting a negative value (eg: displayfontadjustment=-5) will decrease the font size used by Notes to 5 points smaller than the OS default.

Note: this is a display setting, not an actual rendering setting, therefore if your Font size within a Notes Document (for example; an email message) says 10, then the font size you are SAVING within the document is the font size on the tool-bar, NOT 10pt minus your displayfontadjustment size.

HTH,

Mat

Subject: That didn’t do it, but I did track down the problem

I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately DisplayFontAdjustment did not have any effect.

I worked on this some more, and here is what I found:

It appears that Notes reads the DPI setting from the OS and modifies itself accordingly, whether you like it or not (and regardless of the chosen “theme.”) So if you set the DPI to 120 (as I had done some time ago and then forgotten about), Notes will set

FontIncrease=2

without your explicitly asking for it, and there appears to be no way around this.

This is too bad, because I liked how other apps and the OS look with DPI @ 120 (using my laptop at native resolution of 1400x1050). But for Notes it’s painfully large. So either everything else is too small for me or Notes is too big.

:frowning:

Subject: Same here after upgrade from R8.0.0 to R8.5.1

I have already 2 users (out of 20 migrations) with this issue.Both users are working on a laptop, but they are using an external screen via docking station. (not using the laptop screen).

Both migrated directly from 8.0.0 to 8.5.1, maybe is this a hint ?

I would like to know is Lotus consider this issue as a bug.

Subject: FWIW…

I saw a situation very similar to the one you described resolved by resetting the font size in the display properties on the PC (Right click the desktop, select properties, etc.)

My guess is the employee modified her Windows Theme at some point, enlarging the font, and Notes picked up on it.
