Checksum or anything like that

hi all,

what i want to do is to find out if a documents content has been changed.

scenario: several databases filled via lei (full upload). that means each document is deleted and recreated from the lei process each time (nightly).

one crawler job will merge the information into one document in some kind of a masterdata-db.

i want to find out if the content of one of these masterdatadocs has been changed because i have to distribute the data in there to several other systems and it would be nice if i could wrk only on those documents that changed their content.

the last modified date and even the id of the last editor are useless because each document in the masterdata gets new data each night by an scheduled agent which results in SERVER/ID as last editor and always @now as last change date.

is it possible to get a checksum of the document?

so it would be possible to safe this checksums mapped with the UNID in a file and to check if this checksum from the last distribution differs to the one from the newly filled masterdata document or not.

hope you get the point. if not please ask - it’s a real problem.

i have to work on approx. 150000 docs each time, not knowing if really something was changed.

I may be missing something, but could you modify the agent that runs every night to recognize whether the server id is the last modifier and set a field if it is not, or clear the field if it is. You could then use that field to determine whether the document had been modified.

Alex,

Do you care if the doc is saved without making any changes? Do you care if any fields are changed, or just certain fields?

It seems tricky in that you don’t really want a pure checksum, since the doc has indeed been edited by that other agent. If I understand you, you want to know if any other edits have taken place. Is this something you can ferret out of $Revisions and $UpdatedBy? That seems much simpler than trying to capture the state of all fields, for example.
