Is it possible to check to see if one agent is running from another agent using Lotus Script ? I have a situation where a scheduled client side agent running every hour, issues an AgentRun command to a second agent running on a server (the server agent accesses another database and we are not authorized to establish a “trusted Server” entry so I schedule a client side agent to run the server side agent). The problem is that the server side agent may not complete execution within the hour. What I would like to do is to check the server side agent from the scheduled client Agent. If the server agent is running do not issue the RunAgent command for the server side agent and wait until the next client side agent scheduled execution. If the Server side agent is not running issue the AgentRun command from the scheduled client side agent.Any help and or alternate ways of implementation would be appreciated I did perform multiple queries in the forum but no entries referenced lotus script implementations.
Thanks
Tom

How about having the server side agent create a document somewhere that in effect, states that “I’m running”. Your client agent can look for that document, and if found, knows that the agent is running and should not try to schedule the server side agent again. When the server side agent finishes, it would stamp the document in some way, or delete it altogether.
Note that this would break down if for some reason your server side agent failed and did not update/delete the “I’m running” document.

Jack, Thanks for the post. The primary reason for my requirement is that there are times during off shift that network updates and or server availability stops the agent because the connection to the client that initiated the “run” command was lost. Then we loose run time until the morning. My goal was to keep checking run status and then re-issue the AgentRun command when connectivity was restored. I tried to use the GetLastdocument and check the modified date to see when it was last updated, but because the agent processes over 200,00 documents, the view takes a very long time to refresh to assure I get the lastest updated last document. So, I could check results, but I was hoping to check the source, ie agent for run status… Thanks anyway…
