Checkbox In A View Column

Is it possible to have a checkbox displayed in a view column and for the user to be able to click it, which would modify the field without having to open the document?

I’m assuming this is for the Notes client.

You can; it’s a little bit of a kludge.

Basically, it’s not a “real” checkbox in that it can’t get focus – it just looks like a checkbox. You use an icon column to display either an empty or a checked box graphic for each document. You enable the column for in-view editing. In the Inviewedit event, when a user requests to “edit” that column, you set Continue=False, but change the value yourself and save it.

Of course, it’s also possible to check documents by selecting them using the selection margin. This doesn’t change the documents, but you can always have an action that does something to the selected documents – whatever you were checking them off for.

I don’t know about a check box but the inViewEdit ( see help file) allows you to edit a document in the view in place. Alternatively get the document being clicked on by catching the event in the Uiview, get the doc using the NotesCaretID and then present the user with a dialogbox with a check box in it that is set to the vlaue of the field in the document clicked on.

when the dialogbox is closed up date the doc in the background and then refresh the view.
