I´m having some troubles with Symphony when changing Lotus Notes 8.5 data directory.
When I change default data directory in notes.ini for example - C:\Notes\Data to C:\Notes\Data2 - the lotus symphony always will open new documents in a new window.
verified Notes preferences and the always open in new window´s option is not checked.
I would highly recommend you do an uninstall, move everything in the data directory to the new location and then do a reinstall pointing to the old program directory and the new data directory oppose to editing notes.ini. I don’t think anyone maintains all the places and registry settings that may require editing?
Is that it doesn’t require a full re-install to move it. That’s the winbloze way of doing things. Lotus wisely didn’t jump on that particular bandwagon, and I sincerely hope they haven’t done so with 8.5 or it’ll be a parsec-long leap backward in maintainability.- I just moved seven working instances of R5, R6, and R7, plus an R7 server, to a VM day before yesterday. Took 35 minutes to copy all the directories, five minutes to update the .ini files, and 30 seconds to merge the five or six Registry entries Lotus uses for whatever reason.
ALL seven instances AND the server work flawlessly, with ALL settings and custom tools installations INTACT. I defy you do that with anything mickeyswaft, which routinely registers umpteen jillion activex security holes.
Please Lotus, if you continue to do ONE thing, AVOID THE REGISTRY.
I’m about to move my Domino datas from an old folder located in my system’s HD to a second partition I created, notes.ini editing is enough? My case is … an emergency, since the system’s HD has only 40 MB of free space.Regards
