Changed Form Name - Now not finding form

I have a form that was titled with a previous company name. Our name has changed, so I updated the form name to coincide with the new name. That way the from appears in the menu with the new company name.

Now I get an error dialog message that says:

“Can not locate form: OldFormName”

There are numerous records that use this particular form and I need to access the documents. Now I can’t even open the documents that used this form. How can I fix this?

Another idea - if you use buttons to access the forms, you can change what the users see to anything you like, and they will never need to know the form name.

The form name is saved with each document, thus your error.

Why do you need to change the form name? Do users actually see it?

If you really want to change it you have a couple choices:

Run an agent to change any docs with the old form value to the new form value (and run something like TeamStudio to make sure the form name isn’t referenced in any @Command([Compose] formulas)

Make the old name the alias of the form and make the main name your new company’s name.

So how do I run an agent to change the form name (I am a newbie regarding running agents). What code would I use

Also, how would I go about making the form an alias and how does this display in the “Create” menu that shows the form name?

Thanks

I used the alias method and it works - Thanks for the help.

What Jeff said to do will resolve your problem, but I would like to add some ideas to what he said. If you are already familiar with what I say, then ignore it.

The purpose for an alias for a form is to prevent exactly what has happened to you. If, when you design and name a form, you give it an alias, then that alias name will be what is stored in the Form field of the documents created with that form. The value of the Form field is what Notes uses to determine what form to use when a document is opened.

By using an alias, you can change the form name as needed, without running into the problem you have. That allows you to have whatever form name is needed when users select Create from the menu, but the value of the Form field doesn’t change because it is using the alias.

If you decide to go the agent route that Jeff mentioned, I would suggest that you select a more generic alias for the form and set the form to that value, then run the agent and change the value of the Form field in those documents to the new alias. That way, if you ever need to change the form name again, you can and the alias will not change.
