How do I delete a user’s mail file and create a new one without deleting the user and recertifying him/her?
Must the new mail file have the same file name?I’d like to keep the same file name so that bookmarks and replication still work, just pointing to the new mail file.
The main reason I want to do this is that I see corrupt mail files on our network and don’t want to spend the time figuring out what’s going wrong (mail messages not appearing in the Inbox, or disappearing from the Inbox, or never appearing at all, even in All Documents, etc.). I assume the problem has to do with using a Notes 6 Beta with our R5 production system.
Any suggestions or information would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Colin

You can also just rename the original mailfile instead of deleting it at the outset. You could then cut and paste the user’s existing mail into the new mailfile after it’s created and then delete the original.

0- backup1- directly delete the mail file either with the admin client or from the file system if you don’t have the rights from Notes …
2- create a new database using the mail template
3- keep the same filename or change the filename in the NAB …

4 - Make sure you set up the ACL Properly (usually just adding the original owner’s name back in with appropraite rights…)5 - Do this fairly quickly - as any mail sent between deletion and recreation will go missing.

And, the physical mail file name isn’t the point, the name of the file in the person document in the address book is. So, you can call it anything at all. A faster way to do this is to make a new file (like jjones2.nsf), and change what’s in the person document. That way no mail should get lists.
Also, this is why people (and we) get confused trying to find someone’s mail file after they get married and divorced a time or two! The physical file has one name, and the ID and person doc are something totally different. Always check the person doc for the ‘real’ mail file they are using.
Booksmarks and the like are part of the client, and not connected to the mail file (unless I misread what you were asking).

I have users that are complaining about entire INBOX messages disappearing (which they may or may not find in the TRASH), and messages never apearing at all. Similar to what you mentioned.
Originally, the mail databases were iNotes50 template, but upgraded to iNotes60.ntf when the servers were upgraded to 6.01 CF1. I’ve compacted, ran fixup, etc. I’ve created a new mail message for one user and he still sees this happen. I pulled up his new mail database on a client, and the INBOX was empty.
I don’t know what to try next.
