A customer wants to change the default font of outgoing internet mail to Arial 11. I changed the body field in the mail template, but in a test I receive mail with Default Sans Serif 10 in the body. I als changed the body field in the server’s mail.box to Arial 11 and still I receive mail with Default Sans Serif 10 in the body text.
Ah, I see. I must have glazed over the outgoing mail part of your question. Usually we just have visually challenged people who can’t read the default font, so being able to change the default size for our end users had been wonderful as not everybody wants to see their email at 24pt.
If you want your recipients to get a specific font and size, then yeah, you’ve got to modify your template. Keep in mind of course that not all systems have the same fonts so you have to keep it within reason. Something obscure may default to wingdings or something less desirable for your target recipient. Good luck!
I hoped not to frustate my users with settings. I thought Lotus Notes is strong in centrally manage such things. Also because this change in font is mandatory for the management.
Subject: In what format are you sending mail to internet?
Plain text or HTML? Check your server configuration document Mime → Conversion options → Outbound → Message content.
However, when converting Notes mail to HTML the Arial 11 font will be translated to font size=“2” which will resize to Arial 10 so I assume Arial 11 will never be an option.
Mail send from Notes in Arial 11 ends up in Outlook like this:
In the Server configuration document, Outbound Conversion Option, Message content, is set: from Notes to HTML.I am using Crossware Mail Signature to add a company logo to all outgoing internet mail.
So I will have to check what the consequences are of changing this setting to From Notes to HTML and RT.
I think it is a client issue. For also a message disclaimer is added to outgoing mail by Crossware. This is set to Arial 8 and is received by the recipient in Arial 8 (checked it).
I remember a table with conversion options with fot sizes in HTML I will look for it and talk to the customer to change fontsize 11 to 10
from a lot of research, I don’t think it’s possible - for internet mail, it depends on which gateways it goes through, what the receiving organization has set as rules, the way the wind is blowing, and many other things outside your control. I format outgoing mail very carefully, and 90% of the external recipients get it exactly right, but the rest get a complete mess - fonts change, spaces and tabs stripped out (Gmail especially) etc.
