You can change the date format in Control Panel → Regional and Language Options. Notes take the system date format itself

Thanks satish,
But what I want is to change it to french format , so that when I open a database, the date in document properties for any doc should appear as 21 fevr 2008.
How cal this be done

You will need to customize your OS Regional settings. I have Windows XP and went into my control panel and set it as:
I haven’t restarted my notes yet to confirm if the short date is what is used in the properties box.
Of course this may not work an application form/view if the developed hasn’t “customized” the output of the date.
Later - OK I restart my notes and PC and I’m still seeing yyyy-mm-dd (Is this what all of us see?) Sorry.
Looks fine in other apps:
It looks like (I’ve hardly done a lot of research) it takes your format order preference (look at a couple of machines now) and makes it a 4 digit year, 2 digit month and 2 digit day in the order you specify in the regional settings (at least in Windows land).
