Categorize multi values

hi,

my requirement is to map area and product and show the same in view.

for ex.

area1 → prod1, prod2

area2 → prod2, prod3

area3 → prod1, prod3, prod4.

now in a view i need to display area in first column and product in second column but under area1 only prod1 and prod2 should be shown and under area2 only prod2 and prod3 should be shown and so on. No fixed nos. for areas and products

how to accomplish this. kindly reply back if any one have solution. Thanks in advance

Subject: categorize multi values

A bit confused, but looks like u want to use @Left(fieldname;“->”) for first column and @Right(field name;“->”) for the second column.

“->” this symbol is just a representation.

i tried as you said but in the view second column, under area1 all products are diaplayed instead of only prod1 and prod2.

Subject: RE: categorize multi values

Do u mean all the values i.e area1 → prod1, prod2area2 → prod2, prod3

area3 → prod1, prod3, prod4

are in one single document but not in different documents?

Subject: RE: categorize multi values

yes. everything in a single document. what will be the good suggestion whether to have single field or two field.

Subject: RE: categorize multi values

Well you can play with a single field. change the fiels option to,allow multiple value on first tab

New Line option in option seperate values when user enters

New Line option with display separate values with option on thire tab of field properties.

in column property

new line in multi-value separator

Show multiple values as separate entries option in second tab.

the same formula will work in this case.

i tried but the result in view is not as expected

Expexted result in view

Column1 Column2

area1

prod1

prod2

area2

prod2

prod3

area3

prod1

prod3

prod4

but the actual result shown in view is

Column1 Column2

area1

prod1

prod2

prod3

prod4

area2

prod1

prod2

prod3

prod4

area3

prod1

prod2

prod3

prod4

i tried many ways to restrict the values in second column, but everything fails. do you have any idea to bring as given in the expected result from a single document.

For the “first column” (‘area’) property:

Check Show twistie when row is expandable on the first Tab and then select “Ascending” & “Categorized” on the second tab.

For the second column (No Label): Get it’s property box and go to the 2nd Tab: Select “Ascending” and “Show multiple values as separatre entries”. In the column formula, write @If(area= “area1”; prod1:prod2; area = “area2”; prod2 : prod3; area = “area3”; prod1:prod2:prod3; “”)

or If you have the corresponding products in a multivalue field, you can directly map it to the 2nd column.

In the view properties, goto the third tab and under “Rows”, make sure you have selected “Height” as 9 (you can also select a different number as per your situation) and Check “Shrink rows to content”.
