Hello !!I would like to display search results (displayed in $$SearchView) in a categorised format. I wonder if this is possible with Notes v6.
If not, please could you give me a way to go round this problem and end up with a categorised view display ?

Yes you can do it, provided that:
You are carrying out a full-text search of a view on the web i.e. ?SearchView
The view you are searching is categorised the way you want the results
You include ‘&SearchOrder=4’ in your search URL.
Look in designer help for the topic ‘Customising Search forms’ - this details this and other useful parameters.

That only means, that you can do a search on a categorized view.
What Isa wanted, is a categorized result, I think.
Domino always returns a flat result, so if you want to categorize this, you have to use Javascript/DOM or Ajax and you do it in the frontend. We realized this once, but it is difficult and a lot of code.
note: SearchOrder=4 is buggy until Release 7.0.1
