I’m on the scrounge.
My organisation has developed an urgent requirement (yeah, one of those) for an internal car sharing DB. I’ve a clear idea of how to develop from scratch but would rather not reinvent the wheel. Has anyone met a similar requirement who is happy to share?
I’ve searched here, in sandbox and on a few other open source sites before asking. I do realise I’m asking for something for nothing

car sharing? Wouldnt a resource solve this? then you can “reserve” a car from your calendar

Thanks for the suggestion Dennis (and Rami)
This would be a runner if a) my organisation had embraced Notes enough to use resource booking (we’ve only had ND for 5 years and they’re just about to embrace shared calendaring
) and b) when we do go live with it, it wouldn’t confuse the hell out of users because we have the company pool cars in there already.
The requirement (as it blows round in the wind) seems to insist that we can figure out when a shared ride is “full” on a given day. I think I’d have to bend the resource db template quite a bit to get the functionality needed. Cars would need to more like rooms with a capacity that fills as people subscribe to a given slot.

This is quite an easy thing to fullfill. Make the car a resource in the Calender & Scheduling application. Done

I did a ride share db for my company. It’s web based, dirt ugly, but seems to work. My contact data is current so email me. I’ll check with HR to see if they have any objections to sharing the app.

addendum
Looks like there may be some language issues here. If by ‘car share’ you mean, ‘car belongs to the company and we need to reserve it’, then the resource model is the way to go. If you mean ‘employees sharing rides to and from work to save on gas - car pooling in the US’, then my ride share app is better. I’ve emailed you directly with a copy of the db in case the 2nd version is what you’re after.

Hi Doug,
Your interpretation is the right one - car pooling. Employees sharing private rides to save gas.
I got your email. Thanks very much.
