I am currently capacity planning for a consolidation project on our Notes Infrastructure.
Currently in London, we support 300 users on 2 x ML530 993XEON x 2 (2GIG Ram)
Domino Web Access is fairly slow although Notes Client access is perfectly acceptable.
Looking to procure new hardware and to consolidate all European users to centralised install in London.
3000 users, Notes Client predominant, however must be capable to support DWA.
What architecture should I be looking at? Keeping it on Wintel? Windows on Opteron? Lintel or Linux on Opteron? How many CPUs and how many Nodes to the Cluster?
Or should I be setting my sights higher?
System must support mail journaling
Subject: Well…
…theres a lot of considerations to go through.First, decide if mail should be clustred for an event of a catastrophe, could be power failure etc. I think you should.
Then, should you split the users on two or four servers?
Keep in mind that a high number of users will eventually create a huge amount of used disc.
We got 2200 users and about 300 Gb (260GB used) SAN-connected, on each server.
And a lot of disc will make backups/virusscans may take ages to perform, even a design update may take some time.
Theres a lot more, dont know how demanding DWA is to the server, so eight cpu´s might come handy, remember that IBM might charge one Domino-license for each cpu.
