I was changing the Default View from an old obsolete view to a newer view when the Designer crashed hard.
After rebooting the computer, I am not able to fully set a default view. I can choose the “Default design for new folders and views” option in the View Properties and it’ll stay set when I save the view. It even uses the correct view as the default when creating a new view.
However, the little blue arrow to the left of the view name is missing. When I try to attach a document link with AppendDocLink, I get a “Couldn’t get default View id for database” error.
I’ve tried restarting the Domino server and settings other views are the default, but that doesn’t help.
Setting the view’s IsDefaultView propery to True via an agent does not work - it stays False.
If that doesn’t help, make a copy of the database and see whether the problem still happens in the copy.
If it does, delete everything from the design in the copy except a couple of views. See whether the problem still happens.
If it does, please send the file in to Lotus Support along with your support call on this issue.
If the copy does not exhibit the problem, set the default view in the copy, delete the view from the original, and copy-paste the default view from the copy.
Always Local - but take in consideration one thing - if you have multiple users - all of them have to delete cache.ndk. (it was with some other extension in previous versions of Notes).
Usually it’s in your Lotus directory - but make a search on your computer for a file.
Of course the deletion of cache will make some of next loadings a little longer, as Notes client has to download all design elements from scratch…
Thanks for your help. I discovered that I didn’t understand what the error message meant. I’d searched the internet for this error message and got it stuck in my head that the “Default design for new folders and views” option was behind this problem. In fact, it’s the “Default when database is first opened” option that I needed to set. I only realized this when I created an brand new database and copied in my view. The (Untitled) view had the blue arrow and looking at the properties and seeing that the “Default when database is first opened” option was set, but that the other option wasn’t finally cleared up my misconceptions.
