Can't run client on the server

I installed Domino 8.5 on a 7.0.2 server. The server seems to start up fine but when I run the client (nlnotes.exe) if gives me the message -

IBM Lotus Notes does not have a production license. A temporary evaluation license has been enrolled for you to use for 90 days.

It works for a little while then crashes and takes the server with it. So first what is this message? Is it for the client or the server? I do not want to upgrade my production server and have a time bomb. And I need a client on the server.

I tried installing Notes/Designer/Admin on the server also but you get a share error when you go to access a local NSF file.

I think since Notes & Domino 5.x but maybe even earlier…

You should not install a Notes Client using the same data directory as the Domino Server…

If you require this type of access to the Domino Server you should use Full Access Administration from the Domino Administration Client once you give yourself appropriate access.

Subject: We use nlnotes on 7.0.2 right now

I know it is discouraged, but we have need to do this. We do it right now using 7.0.2 using nlnotes.exe to open databases local.

Is that the reason for the “evaluation license” message? I want to make sure the server upgraded properly. This is not attached to the network right now.

Thanks in advance - Dave

The biggest issue with running the client on the server is that if the client was opened, then the server started, strange things would happen, cache etc
