Can't read Simplified Chinese after upgrade R6 Client

In our R5 environment, we can read Simplified Chinese with no problems at all. But after I’ve install my new R6 client, I can’t read any Simplified Chinese fonts anymore. Have anyone face this problem?? Any help would be grateful!

I did have the same problem when I was using Windows 2000.

Try upgrade to XP. This problem will be solved.

Guess XP has much better multi-language support.

the notes 6 client allows ‘soft mapping’ of fonts, so your client configuration may not be using the proper fonts.

in the u.s. and international english versions, you can check this by selecting File, Preferences, User Preferences from the menu. this initially displays the Basics page on the User Preferences dialog. click the Default Fonts button to display the Default Fonts dialog. you should see four pulldown lists with font settings for the Default Serif font, the Default Sans Serif font, the Default Monospace font, and the Default Multilingual font.

I did try quite a number of different fonts but failed.

The only way to make it work is to make the default locale (Windows Control Panel) to Simplified Chinese. (And Notes will automatically change to the proper default font.)

I have this method as well or just basically change the default fonts to a chinese fonts. That will work, but isn’t it kinda weird when R5 have no problem with this and R6 have problems. I’m thinking if i’m going to every users computer to change the location locale. Its kinda annoying.

Hello William,

Can I ask you how you configured the R5 clients to display chinese characters? Currently I use the Windows font MS Song as default Serif font, but the when chinese characters are entered, they all change to a single character.

Also, if you finally resolved the issue for R6 clients in this posting, I would appreciate it if you could share it with me.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Jean-Pierre

PS: I have read through a lot of other postings, but somehow the postings do not present a clear and solid solution to viewing messages using double byte character sets.
