Hi all,
We recently upgraded to domino 8.5 across the board with our domino customers. So far nothing has come up until now.
Recently a user emailed in that he can no longer ftp down .ntf or .nsf files. A colgue of mine says it should be possible and has been in the past.
I have confirmed that he cannot. The ftp client’s “both windows and Mac” i’ve tested just time out or give a generic error. I figured it would be permissions of some sort but those type of operations give the expected error when tested.
If I allow the user sftp the files come right down, but I cannot allow the user sftp for security reasons.
I hope someone might have some suggestions what might be causing this issue and a resolution.
Thank you for your time.
Bill
Subject: BTW, I understand that
BTW, I understand that this may not be a domino specific issue in the end but since it worked before upgrade I thought I would i give it a shot. Also, the download just times out on most attempts/clients. No specific error.
Subject: Something you can try.
You can get FILEMON from Sysinternals on the MS website.
Then have it monitor file names you are downloading. It will show you if anything other then the FTP is accessing them.
Subject: Worth a shot
Simon,
Thanks for the reply. I suppose that’s worth a shot. Although I would be surprised if it was something locking the file or similar since it can be downloaded just by switching to sftp which should not have any effect of that type of situation.
I’ll give it and shot and get back the results to you.
Subject: I’d check to see if someone updated the FTP software
a security setting or policy or something. As Domino doesn’t have an FTP server, I bet you’ll find some other update was performed at the same time you updated your Domino server, but maybe you’re not aware of it. Could be a new firewall installed somewhere with restrictive policies, can an ftp client on the server connect to itself on 127.0.0.1 and get the files?
