Cannot upgrade from 6.5 to 8.5

Hi!

I am an administrator of a company and I am updating the version of the lotus notes client. I have a problem with upgrade from version 6.5.4 of lotus notes client to 8.5 version. When I execute the installer the first windows appears is the last of install, that appears this message:

“The wizard was interrupted before completing the installation”

(is a translate from spanish to english)

I have been investigating, uninstalling previous version, remove from registry any entries with the words “IBM”, “Lotus” or “Notes”, but this error still appears.

If I delete the file deploy\install.xml I can continue the installation but when the installation try to copy files an error occurs (missing deploy\install.xml). I try to remove this file and, when I can pass the first window, restore the file but the same error occurs.

This error don’t occurs in all pc’s, only in the pc’s have the windows xp installed over a year ago. Two pc’s with the same software installed, one installed over a year ago and other new, in the first I can’t install the new version and the last I can. And I use the same version of software, olny change the version of Microsoft office 2003 (the service pack).

I drop the option of formatting pcs because I have more than 60 pc’s with this problem.

Any idea?

Yes, I have administrator rights, also I have isolated a pc, and uninstall all software as possible, remove user profiles and create a new administrator user, and receive the same error.

Moreover I apply Reading and Writing rights for all users on the registry of windows and all files of HDD if was a permissions problem, but the problem persist.

I think the problem is in the testing requirements of installation, but I don’t see the solution, the pc’s are all at least a Pentium Dual Core, 2Ghz, 512Mb (most of pc’s 1Gb)RAM, and HDD 80Gb at least

If I take a pc that I can’t install the client 8.5 and formatting this, so I can install the client, so I think it is not hardware problem

in the installing user’s My Documents folder (or the Spanish equivalent) find the LotusInstall.log file and either post it here or you can mail it to zamfir at us.ibm.com

Subject: Win XP service pack

Check the XP service pack on the system, it should be SP2. The installer requires some upgraded windows installer program which comes with SP3. I was able to fix the issue for a user after upgrading to SP3. Hope this helps.

I try the installation in Windows XP Professional SP2 and SP3, and also update the windows installer to the last version but receive the same error.
