Cannot set pop3 account password in Ubuntu

I cannot download pop3 mail in my Ubuntu client. Other pop3 programs on the same machine work fine and replicas of the same installation work fine in Windows.

The only oddity I have noticed is that it is not possible to type the pop3 password into the account. The cursor stays stuck to the left hand side of the field.

Got over the password problem by creating all the account information on a Windows XP client and replicating. Pop3 access is still not entirely reliable but might relate to a Thomson adsl router being used.
