On the server copy of my design database, I cannot enter any text to set the nsf I am working on as Master template.
Has something change in v8 that has slipped my awareness?
I can set this property on my local Replica but when it replicates to the server it is LOST.

I am having the same issue. On 8.02, and 8.5. When I set the property, it appears to be set, but if I close the database, and re-open the properties, the check box is cleared again.
I am thinking that this is an authority or configuration issue since another user can set that property. I am in the administrators group though, so I don’t know where I could be missing authority.

On the server document, Security Tab, Security Access section, are you in the group that is listed for “Create Master Templates” field?

What C L Groth suggested worked for me. HAd to add myself on the server document as someone who could create master templates.
Subject: This is stil an issue even on 8.5.2
I had this happen to me today on 8.5.2 fp2A developer created a template (.ntf) on the server and wanted to add it as a Mastertemplate afterwards.
Even though he was in the LocalDomainAdmins group that have the correct Master Template creation privileges anything he wrote in vanished.
Me as an administrator tried the as well with the same strange result.
So 3 years now and the bug still exists.
Subject: Problem was multiple databasers with teh same master template name
After some thinking and digging around in catalog.nsf I found that the problem was that there already was a template on the server with the exact same name.
So it was good that it didn’t save it, but I would have appreciated a “heads up” or popup or warning or something obvious.

Subject: Local Replica
I created a local replica of the template database and it was already checked when I opened the database properties! I was then able to refresh the design of the main database from the local replica.
