Cannot send e-mail to internet (PLEASE help)

Hi all,

I have installed a Windows 2000 Domino 6.0.1 sever in domain aaa. I need it to route internet email to my smtp domino 5.0.11 in domain bbb. It does not route the internet email unless I append the domain name to it.

example: xxxx@yahoo.com@(mydomain).

So somehow it is not picking up the domain.

This server was version 5.0.11 and everything worked. I already have the Adjacent, foreign & Global domain documents, smtp listener enabled,

mail routing connection document. I can nping, ping each server. The server console also gets a message that it failed to connect to smtp host contact yahoo.com or whatever the domain may be that it is going to. All has worked before and it does work if I append our domain to the internet adress. Please help where I went wrong.

Thanks very much in advance,

Tim

Subject: Cannot send e-mail to internet (Solution)

The fix for this was that version 6 needs a smtp connection document with the source server being the smtp server. It also needs the Foreign smtp domain doc as always. This was how I route internet traffic on a non smtp server to the smtp server. No relay host is needed and do not enable ‘smtp when sending messages outside the local internet domain’ in the config document. also the ‘destination domain field’ in the smtp connection doc has to match the Domain name field in the foreign smtp domain document. The name in each can be what ever you want, but they have to be the same.1.)

Foreign smtp domain doc:

Internet domain= .

Destination domain= Internet

2.)

smtp connection doc

Connection type =smtp

source server= should be your smtp server name

destination server= Internet

why so complicated?use Relay Host

Search in Domino Administrator help.

Thank you for your response.I entered my smtp server in the relay host field and it is now attempting to go to that host via smtp. Is there a way to send it to my smtp without having smtp enabled on the source server. I would like to send all internet email from my internal servers to my smtp server via Notes. If I address the internet email and append my domain to the end of the address, it will successfully route to my smtp via Notes.

So I guess my question now would be how do I get my server doc to append my domain to the end of an internet address to route it?

Thanks again.
