Several of the Lotus Notes users in my company cannot save attachments to the shortcut folders on the desktop. It can be saved to the actual folder on the C drive but not to the shortcut folder. This applies to all attachments. Is this a known bug with Release 6.5 and Windows XP? This action is ok with Release 6.5 on Windows 2000.
Is there a fixup for this?

Do a search on shortcuts…there is something wrong with how it navigates windows folder shortcuts. I used to use one to get to the IDs I switch to for testing, and I can’t use it anymore - Notes things I am choosing it as the ID file, and doesn’t recognize that it is a shortcut. I run 6.5.2 on WinXP.

The shortcut is fine, the user can save MS Word and Excel documents to the shortcut folder on the desktop but just not from Notes. There are no error messages either.

I have since determined that it is a Windows XP problem, and does not appear to be related to the version of Notes running, in case it helps anyone!
Subject: Kinda solution…
…this a known problem with XP-machines, also W98 and NT are affected.I´m on 654 and the solution wtiht the ini-parameter Shell_Links=1 worked for me.
In LotusKB it says:
Problem
When you detach an attachment and select a shortcut folder, you find that this populates the filename parameter with the shortcut name rather than the attachment’s filename. For example, if the shortcut name is “Mydocs”, then the dialog’s filename parameter would be “Mydocs.lnk”.
Additionally, in Notes 6.x, if you attempt to attach a file through a shortcut folder, instead of the shortcut folder opening, a .lnk file is put into the rich text field. In Notes 5.x this same operation resulted in the file being attached rather than the .lnk file.
Solution
The detachment issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# DCAL59ZNYT and has been addressed in Notes client releases 6.0.4/6.5.1. The behavior can now be controlled by the use of a client Notes.INI parameter Shell_Links. Setting the parameter to a numerical value of 1, for example, Shell_Links=1, avoids the issue.
The attachment issue under Notes 5.x that resulted in a file being attached rather than the .lnk file was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# NEN4TBF74 and was addressed in Notes 6.0. Some customers found the revised behavior unexpected, and the issue was reported as a regression in SPR# ABUI68TR7C.
Workarounds:
-
When saving an attachment, either re-type the filename entry in the Save… dialog (do not use anything with the extension .lnk, as it is reserved by Windows) or avoid using shortcuts and navigate to the folder directly.
-
When attaching files, avoid using shortcuts and navigate to the folder directly.

I’m running Notes 7/WinXP. I tried adding Shell_Link=1 to my notes.ini and it did not work.
Any other news?

Move the entry much higher up the notes.ini. Worked for me.

We are having the same issue - instead of opening the folder, it attaches a link to it. If anyone finds anything out, post it here!
