Cannot open mail NSF file

I have migrated a user to a new system (Lotus Notes 6.5.5) and I am having a bit of an issue here. When I try to open their local database, I get an “Invalid or nonexistent document” message. When I run nfixup, I get the following:

Subject: Cannot open mail NSF file

Perhaps an ACL issue or the user isn’t registered on the new system?

Subject: RE: Cannot open mail NSF file

I will clarify one more point. I do get prompted for the correct user credentials to connect to Notes through the UserID file, which is password protected and appears to have all of the certificates associated with the user account.

Subject: RE: Cannot open mail NSF file

I will take a look at the ACLs. This is a stand alone laptop that I have migrated the user to, so I may have to sync the database again with the Domino server. I haven’t re-connected the new laptop to the server, as I expected that migrating the database files to the new laptop should not have caused an issue. I can view the journal and address book, but the calendar and mail databases are generating the same error.

Subject: Cannot open mail NSF file - PROBLEM RESOLVED!

Got it fixed!

Here’s what I did wrong.

I installed Notes, created a new user, logged out, then copied the user.id file over top of the new user.

Here’s how you should transfer mail accounts after installing Notes onto another system.

-Create the new user.

-Log off once Notes completes its initial setup

-Rename the original \LOTUS\NOTES\DATA\USER.ID

-Open Notes

-Select the renamed USER.ID

-Copy over the original USER.ID and the database files to a new directory

-Go to Security–>Switch userID

-select the original user.id file and login

-Go to File–>Database–>Open Database

-Open the respective database file
