On a replica on a local, the User goes to open a form from within a view and gets a “cannot locate form” error message. It works on other replicas and on the server but not on this one replica. I’ve seen some guesses, suggestions, and stabs-in-the-dark on this forum as to how to fix this by running Load convert, then Load Fixup, then Load Updall on the server. and creating a new replica on the local, etc. and I will try that, but can anyone explain WHY this is happening. What is causing this problem. Is there not a better, easier solution?
Creating a new replica will take upwards of 2 hours, tying up the local machine and the user, and myself, for that time. Why is there no solution or explanation from IBM/Lotus Notes available? Why are they not providing any information on this? Do I sound pissed? I’m tired of working in the frikkin’ dark with Lotus Notes. Sorry for the rant, but this is ridiculously frustrating. And ongoing. I think I’ve made my point.
Any insight as to why this problem occurs and how to permanently fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.
Perform an OS file copy of the database to a workstation that has Designer access to the db and review the design to see if the form is actually there.
No matter how pissed off you are, providing some basic information on what you are even talking about would make it easier for others to follow. I really don’t feel like searching for potential older postings to find out if you’re talking about a mail database or whatever.
Venting your anger if anything doesn’t work and - in the absence of any other enemy - blaming Notes for something that happens to one user only is normal and valid.
Not providing additional information when explicitly asked to is not so normal and rather shortsighted.
Please let me know if you still need an answer to your question, I don’t think it really matters to you or your problem.
Criticizing someone who rightly gets frustrated with this piece of shit isn’t exactly helping either. Listening to me point out that there is little or no documentation or support available for Lotus Notes developers like myself is par for the course with Notes. If documentation exists for this particular problem, please give me a link or something.
My explanation was pretty straightforward and you did not ask for any specific details. I could give you enough details to fill a small book, but being that this is such a general problem, ie. the damned database can’t find a friggin’ form on a replica, I would have though that the notes experts here would have asked the necessary specific questions to narrow it down to the specific problem. I don’t even know where to start. You tell me where we start.
And I am not blaming Notes, I am blaming IBM and their Notes division. Why can I not find anything on this problem, anywhere. And why are they not monitoring this forum and responding to these issues? If I am missing a source of information on Notes, then please set me straight and tell me where I can access this information. Give me a link or something.
I am sorry for ranting. I would rather be writing code.
Have you tried simply refreshing/replacing the design of the local replica? Or running nfixup locally? Keep in mind that scheduled maintenance tasks (like updall) that are routinely run on the server don’t run locally, so it is more likely that elements in a local database will become corrupted over time.
