"Cannot execute the specified command"

When clicking send after composing an e-mail the error “Cannot execute specified command” appears. The e-mail is sent however it does not close the composed e-mail (leaves it in the same view as it is before send is clicked)

Subject: experience the same issue

I’m trying to narrow this down in my environment as well.I get some random users with the issue.

Issue only seems to have started with users that run 8.5 standard.

I want to believe, also, that it’s just users with older hardware (sub-prime but do-able).

Subject: same issue

experience the same issue.happen on mixture of hardware (lapotp/desktop)all upgraded from 6.5 client to 8.5 client.

One user happen to have this issue when we tried to change ‘Save copies of message that I send’ to ‘Ask Me’ instead of always.

Subject: could it be spell check

Hi Guys,

for user having such problem, do they got the prompt for spell check after clicking on send button?

Subject: Cannot execute the specified command

One of user had reported this issue, so solution is as discussed by our colleague here, just follow below steps:-

  1. Remove the user mailbox comprising his Local copy.

  2. Remove the workspace.

  3. Close notes and open users profile and after that remove the workspcae folder in it.

4 Open Lotus Notes installed folder in Program files. Then remove the Bookmark.nsf and Cache.NDK.

  1. Restart the Lotus Notes

Subject: Still no answer…

Still no definite answer but I believe clearing the Workspace folder and allowing it to recreate on the next launch (standard client) does fix it temporarily. In my situation its only a handful of users and the issue always seems to return eventually

Subject: Anyone see this error keep occurring after installing 8.5 FP1

… I know it’s early, but it’s at least deterred a few of my more problematic users with this issue. (thus far).

can’t hurt to try it for your cases.

Subject: bump this

Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone else has experienced these similar issues.

I’m seeing it more frequent as more users get to 8.5 standard.

The error “cannot execute the specified command” shows up after any new document is created in any sort of database template.

Restarting Lotus Notes removes the error, but the same install is prone to get the error the next day or maybe a couple days later.

Subject: happening here as well

We’re working on migrating from 6.5 to 8.5, and beginning to see this error message on some users.

Getting the 'Cannot execute…" message when clicking the send button. The message actually gets sent, but the user’s mailbox isn’t auto-closing the sent message (message does appear in the ‘sent’ mailbox too).

Any solutions?

Subject: Me too!

I’ve got one user (happens to be our CEO) who gets the “Cannot execute the specified command” error.

It occurs whenever he clicks a button in an app that uses @Command([FileCloseWindow]).

I reproduced the error on his client (8.5) by opening his local log.nsf, going into a Security Event and clicking the “Close” button so it’s not just our custom apps. Also happens on an app that’s based on the Team Room template. I can open a team doc, click the “Cancel” button and the message pops up.

Subject: Solution

A solution to the problem that many people are facing with “cannot execute command” when either sending an email or saving as draft, is to close the “Home” or “Workspace” tab. This will prevent the error from being displayed.

Hope this helps!

Subject: it works

Closing the homepage/workspace works. But to prevent it from happening, we had to refresh bookmark.nsf and not setup workspace as default homepage.

That way our user will still be able to work using the workspace.

Subject: Fix??

Yeah, sure, let’s put a band-aid on it so you wont notice it bleeding. This is no solution. I don’t want to have to open my workspace every time I start Notes just because a programmer stepped on a line of code someplace.Let’s get this fixed.

Subject: PMR

I had a PMR open for months on this.

Eventually an internal SPR # LMAN7TRHLP came up out of it. (although the only solution was to close the workspace tab… and re-open it for a temp solution).

They claim it’s under investigation for 8.5.1, and if it’s not… I may cry.

Subject: —> Workaround and Announcement

I got message from development that the issue will be fixed in 8.5.1. To those who need a rapid workaround and cannot upgrade to 8.5.1:

The error is restricted to persons who made work space or replication page as homepage. So should place the workspace on their bookmarks bar and select the standard homepage (as long as they work with 8.5.0).

Subject: not a solution.

Sorry, but that’s not a solution. My user’s are workspace users. They deal with many databases.

No matter which database they use, upon creation of a new document of any sort… when submitted… the error appears.

I’ve had a PMR going a good few months now with IBM … sans solution.
