We have Notes version 6 or 6.5. I don’t know the version for sure because I cannot open mine. My valid “user.id” file is missing (I don’t think it was ever created).
The main reason is that (don’t flame me) we use Outlook. However, we often need to open NSF files that do not have passwords (they have been properly cleared before getting to us).
We just had a “pc image” change and it looks like some things are lost. How do we go about creating a new “user.id” file for me without having a Notes server running? It sounds like we have the proper licenses, but actually getting it done may be difficult because of lack of expertise with Notes.
Subject: Cannot Create User.ID File
Do you have the Notes client on your PC? I am assuming you start the Notes client and that’s where you have the problem? If you do have a Notes id available on your PC you may locate it via a search on *.id. Let me know the answers to these questions and I will respond with additional instructions.
Subject: RE: Cannot Create User.ID File
Yes, the Notes client is on my PC. The problem happens when I launch Notes and also when I double-click on an NSF file.
Doing a search, there is a “user.id” file at:
C:\Program Files\lotus\notes\data
However, this was probably from someone else’s installation (we have ghost images of a generic computer).
Supposedly, we are to use the NT Integrated Security (we typically set the “Login to Notes using your operating system login” option).
