I meant “the server does not respond”
Subject: Can you ping the server?
Is it set up correctly via the firewall and dns and all those other important network things?

If you don’t see the “Listen for connect requests on TCP/IP” Database Server task, then your server isn’t running correctly. Search this forum for how to fix that, or the Admin Help Database.
If your server is running check your client’s configuration to see if it’s pointing to that server. Most likely it’s not.
If none of the above helps you, then I cannot help you. I’m not really an admin, I just maintain my own set of servers for development.
Hope this helps…
Subject: what i did
I did “show tasks” and i found “Listen for connect requests on TCP/IP” ,so i guess,as u said, that the client doesn’t point to the server,i think it’s a problem of dns,but i don’t know much about the network so i can’t figure out the problem.
Here is what i did :
During the installation of the server i’ve put in domaine’s name : soc_dom
the serer’s name is : S1
In the host name for the Domino server i’ve put randomlly : S1.soc.fr (I read that i should put the DNS name of the server Domino ,but i don’t know where to find this name )
During the client’s configuration i’m asked to put the server address so i’ve used the one in the name host : S1.soc.fr
Hope i’ve clarified the problem and thanks alot for your help
Subject: For me…
I set it up as server/org, so my dev server is “seggr”, my org is “rags”, and my R8.5 development server is “seggr/rags”.- When I set up the client, I pointed it to “seggr/rags” and it connected. I also have “rold/rags”, an R6 development server. We kinda skipped right over R7 so I don’t have one of those installed.
I’d go with Steve’s suggestion about pinging the server; that’s always a good first step for network issues. There is an utility called “Notes Ping” that performs the same function using the standard Notes port, 1352, using the Notes RCP. This is an excellent second step if the command line ping works. If you can Notes Ping the server you should be able to hit it with the client. Lastly, you may have to create a Location Document to point to that server, if it’s not in your hosts file.
