Cannot Compact -B with 6.02 CF1

Any one experience a problem with compacting after the upgrade? I ran compact -B several times and it seemed like it was working but it never reduced the file size. The mail file was 313mb with only 18% in use???

I have multiple servers on 6.0.2CF1, on multiple platforms (Linus, AS/400, Win2k). They all compact fine.

When you run compact, sometimes the compact process dies if the database gets changed in any way during compaction. If I’m compacting a user that gets lots of mail, I usually schedule their compaction for early in the morning.

Also, you might try to run a fixup on the problem database first. Sometimes there are some invalid documents in a mail file that can cause compaction to hiccup. (fixup -j if you’re logging)

Try ‘compact -c -i’ first to invoke a copy style compaction while ignoring errors. This will also reduce the size.

Once that runs successfully, try the -B option.

Thank you! The load compact -c -i worked.

Subject: Check the advanced properties (Cannot Compact -B with 6.02 CF1)

We had the issue where some of the mail databases couldn’t be compacted using the -B flag, while users were logged in.

As the “compact -B” command worked fine on some users, I compared the advanced options for the databases and found that I could get to work for all databases by setting them the same. I am not sitting in front of a Notes client now so I can’t check exectly which option it was, but I am sure that you will find it out by comparing settings.
