Can I install the notes 8.5.1 by myself without upgrade server? Do I need a license to upgrade the notes client?
And is it possible for Notes 6 to use note 8.5.1 template?

Yes - unless your company has software assurance which, given they’re still on R6 is unlikely.
And is it possible for Notes 6 to use note 8.5.1 template?
No - but if you upgraded your client it would be the other way round, 8.5.1 using an R6 template. This will work but you’d be missing quite a few features.
