Can code update a Computed for Display field

I have to fix a problem in a very involved system of Notes databases. I noticed in a dialogbox that there is a computed for display field called documentType. This field gets passed to the document that is created based on how the user fills out the dialogbox. If they choose an opportunity, the value of documentType gets updated to opportunity in the dialogbox. But does that work? If it is a computed for display field can you modify the value of the field through code? And will the new value get passed to the new document being created.

thanks.

Subject: Can code update a Computed for Display field

Hi

As given in Designer help about Computed For Display type of fields:

A computed-for-display field formula recalculates each time a user opens or saves a document. Use this type of formula in a field to display information that is relevant only to the immediate session, such as the current time or the results of calculations that you don’t need to save. The field value exists during the current session only and is not stored. You cannot display the contents of a computedfordisplay field in a view.
