Calendaring & Scheduling Thoughts

I was curious about people’s general experiences with the Notes calendaring product. We have a lot of issues with it and are just wondering if other folks see the same flakiness and inconsistencies that we do. We use the calendar heavily, for scheduling and rescheduling lots of meetings.

I’m using the R4.5 and R7.0 calendar daily, and everything works fine (my real mails go to the R7.0 mail archive every 5 min).

What kind of problems did you experience?

Lots of craziness with rescheduling of repeating meetings. Meetings fall off random calendars for reasons that cannot be diagnosed. Could be end user error, but still there is no way to recover from it once it happens.

The calendar works fine as a personal appointment keeper, but for an enterprise environment of repeating meetings with many participants, it hasn’t been very reliable.

Subject: What version are you using?

We at IBM use C&S everyday for thousands and thousands of meetings. I have 3 or 4 a day minimum on my calendar. At least half are repeating, and almost everyone involves people from different time zones. If you could be specific about the issues you are having, what version of client and server, what OS etc, that would help. Also, if you are having problems, have you opened a support incident, as that would be the best thing to do.

Thanks, we are already working with Lotus on our issues.

I saw you are working with Lotus but I have a quick question. Are you guys new to using the calendaring on Notes. I have noted with users before that since meeting invitations come in as email messages, they will delete them thinking that the entry is on the calendar. This may be a case of end user education. There are setting in the Tools Preferences about what to do when a calendar request comes into a mailbox. Many times, I’ve seen end-users delete files not realizing they are deleting the calendar entry as well. It’s one of the features I don’t like about Notes calendaring - but it’s better than having to deal with the “big calendar folder in the sky” on Exchange servers. Trust me.
